In a continued push to attract top-tier talent from around the world, the UAE has expanded its prestigious Golden Visa programme with five new categories. Originally launched in 2019, the Golden Visa offers 10 years of residency to eligible foreign nationals, and it’s become a cornerstone of the country’s long-term vision to strengthen its economy, knowledge base, and innovation sectors.
The latest expansion reflects the UAE’s commitment to recognizing the contributions of professionals from a wider range of fields including healthcare, education, digital media, and even luxury maritime businesses.
1. Golden Visa for Nurses with Years of Service
In a heartfelt gesture aligned with International Nurses Day (May 12), the UAE government announced a 10-year Golden Visa specifically for nurses who have served at Dubai Health for over 15 years. The move, described by officials as a tribute to healthcare heroes, reinforces the nation’s recognition of nurses as vital contributors to the community’s health and wellbeing.
2. Educators in Private Institutions Now Eligible
Teachers and educators in Dubai’s private education sector are now eligible for the Golden Visa too. Announced by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), this category includes educators from nurseries, schools, and universities who have shown dedication to academic excellence and raised educational standards. Ras Al Khaimah has also launched a similar initiative covering teachers, principals, and senior academic staff, backed by the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge (RAK DOK). Family sponsorship is included in this category, making it more appealing for professionals with dependents.
3. Digital Content Creators Get Long-Term Residency
In a move tailored for the digital age, the UAE has introduced a Golden Visa path for content creators, including social media influencers, filmmakers, and digital storytellers. This track was officially launched during the 1 Billion Followers Summit and is managed by Creators HQ. The best part? No sponsor is needed—qualified creators can apply independently online, marking a big step forward for the UAE’s growing digital economy.
4. Gamers and E-Sports Pros Join the Golden Club
Gaming isn’t just a hobby anymore it’s a serious profession, and the UAE is taking notice. Under the Dubai Programme for Gaming 2033 (DPG33), the city has introduced a Golden Visa for e-sports professionals and gaming specialists. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 25 years old and obtain certification from Dubai Culture. Abu Dhabi has also stepped in with support through its Department of Culture and Tourism, offering similar opportunities for gaming talent.
5. Golden Visa Now Available for Luxury Yacht Owners
Abu Dhabi is now welcoming luxury yacht owners under the Golden Quay initiative. To qualify, individuals must own a private yacht that is 40 metres or longer. But this category isn’t limited to owners it also extends to executives and stakeholders involved in yacht-related industries, such as manufacturing, insurance, and brokerage. Family sponsorship is available here too, adding to the appeal of this elite offering.
A Vision for the Future
These new categories mark a significant shift in how the UAE is redefining residency making it more inclusive, accessible, and aligned with modern professions. By targeting key contributors in healthcare, education, digital innovation, gaming, and maritime industries, the Golden Visa continues to evolve into a tool for both recognition and retention of global talent.
With this expansion, the UAE not only honors professionals who are shaping the world today but also ensures that they feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to grow their careers and lives in the Emirates.
