Indian travellers who have been using a UK residence visa to get a UAE visa on arrival may soon need to make other travel plans. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has updated its visa-on-arrival rules for Indian passport holders, and one important change is that a UK residence visa alone will no longer make travellers eligible for this facility once the revised policy comes into effect.
The updated rules were announced by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). While the new eligibility criteria have been confirmed, the authorities have not yet announced the date from which the changes will be implemented.
Who Can Still Get a UAE Visa on Arrival?
Indian passport holders can continue to use the conditional 14-day visa-on-arrival facility if they have any of the following valid documents :
Under the current system, eligible travellers can also extend their stay by another 14 days, subject to the applicable rules.
UAE May Introduce a 60-Day Visa-on-Arrival Option
Along with these changes, the UAE is also considering a new 60-day conditional visa-on-arrival option for eligible Indian travellers.
According to the latest immigration update, the proposed scheme is expected to follow eligibility requirements similar to the existing 14-day visa-on-arrival programme. However, officials have not confirmed when this new option will become available.
What Does This Mean for Indian Travellers?
The biggest impact will be on Indian passport holders who depend only on a UK residence visa to qualify for a UAE visa on arrival. Once the revised rules take effect, they will likely need to apply for a regular UAE tourist visa before travelling unless they also hold an eligible US or EU visa or residence permit.
Travellers are advised to check the latest visa requirements before booking flights or travelling, as airlines may ask passengers to show proof of visa eligibility before boarding.
The UAE continues to be one of the most visited international destinations for Indians, with cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi welcoming millions of tourists, professionals, and business travellers each year. Before leaving, travelers should check the most recent entry regulations to prevent any last-minute travel problems.
