The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a new visa called the Blue Visa, aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility. This long-term residency option is designed for people who have made exceptional contributions in areas like environmental protection, sustainability, and renewable energy.

The Blue Visa addresses the broader goals of UAE to create a greener, more sustainable future. After announcing it in 2024, the visa is now officially open for applications from both inside and outside the country.

What is the UAE Blue Visa?

The Blue Visa is a 10-year residency permit that gives eligible individuals long-term access to live and work in the UAE. However, before receiving the full visa, successful applicants are first granted a six-month multiple-entry visa, allowing them to complete the rest of the residency process.

This initiative supports the UAE’s national strategies for sustainability and was launched as the country continues its commitment to green efforts, following its second Year of Sustainability in 2024.

Who Can Apply for the Blue Visa?

Not everyone is eligible for the Blue Visa. The visa is reserved for:

  • Scientists and researchers who have made global contributions in climate, environment, or sustainability.
  • Entrepreneurs and investors involved in green businesses or renewable energy initiatives.
  • Experts working with environmental agencies either in the public or private sector within the UAE.
  • If you have a proven track record of contributing to environmental causes or developing innovative green solutions, you may qualify.

How to Apply for the Blue Visa

You can apply for a Blue Visa via the ICP Smart Services Portal or its mobile app. Here’s how the process works:

    1. Visit the official ICP website or download the ICP mobile app.

    2. Fill out the online form with your personal information, including a valid email address.

    3. Upload supporting documents, including proof of your work or achievements in sustainability or environmental fields.

    4. Submit a valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity.

    5. Pay your visa fees with available online payment options.

    6. Submit the application.

    7. As soon as the application is edited, you will receive a confirmation-email.

ICP says the process takes around seven minutes to complete online, and once all documents are verified, approval is typically given within one working day.

Apply for a Blue Visa from outside of UAE

If you’re applying from outside the UAE, such as from India or any other country, the steps are the same. You’ll need to:

  • A valid passport copy
  • A recent passport-size photo
  • Documents proving your eligibility (e.g., research publications, awards, or green project investments)
  • As soon as you upload the document and pay the fee, your application will be reviewed. After approval, you’ll receive a six-month visa that allows multiple entries into the UAE.

This six-month period can be extended once if needed, giving you enough time to finalize your long-term residency.
