Thailand is once again changing its travel rules for foreign tourists, and Indian travellers will also see an important change. Earlier, Indian passport holders were allowed to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa. This rule was introduced in 2024 to encourage tourism after the pandemic and helped attract many visitors to places like Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi, and Chiang Mai.

Now, Thai authorities are planning to reduce the visa-free stay period from 60 days back to 30 days. Indian tourists will still be able to enter Thailand without applying for a tourist visa before travel, but the allowed stay may soon become shorter.

The government is making this change because officials found that some foreigners were misusing the longer visa-free period. Reports say a few visitors were staying for non-tourism activities, running illegal businesses, working without permission, or overstaying beyond the allowed time. Thailand now wants to support tourism while also keeping stricter control over immigration rules.

At present, some tourism and embassy websites are still showing the old 60-day information, so travellers are advised to check the latest updates before booking flights or hotels.

Important Things Indian Travellers Should Know

Check the latest visa rules

Since the new system may be introduced gradually, travellers should confirm the updated stay duration through official Thai embassy websites or airlines before departure.

Plan trips carefully

People planning long holidays or extended stays may need to adjust their travel plans if the 30-day limit becomes official again.

Avoid overstaying

Thailand has strict penalties for staying longer than the permitted period. Travellers should keep track of entry and exit dates properly.

Carry travel documents

Immigration officers may ask for hotel booking details, return flight tickets, or proof of enough money during arrival checks.

Even with this change, Thailand is still expected to remain one of the easiest and most popular international destinations for Indian tourists because of its affordable travel costs, beaches, shopping, nightlife, and short flight duration from India. The main difference is that travellers may no longer get the longer 60-day visa-free stay that was available earlier.
